Review: Outsiders By Bailey Vaughn

This book is about a small town that invites a group of foreigners to their town to see and learn about living in America. They call it an “experiment”, and their agreement is that each family would get a guest for one year, bigger families get two guests. But the outsiders are not what they seem. We follow Hannah, a seventeen year old girl who is looking to fall in love with one of the foreigners. She got what she wanted but he has a secret and because of this secret, their love is forbidden. When the truth is revealed about the real intentions of the outsiders, Hannah has to find the courage to save her town, but at what expense, what will she have to lose?

There is always something happening in this story, it is very fast passed and I love that! Hannah is an ordinary high school girl; she likes to have fun and loves her friends, it’s not hard since she’s known them all her life. I really liked her character, she surprised me with some of the choices she made, but she’s a brave girl! Hannah’s parents are very loving toward her. Her love interest’s name is Jaise and he is different from the other outsiders, he actually can express his feelings. The outsiders look like they don’t have much fun; they’re pretty uptight and strange which made me wonder if they had ulterior motives. I believe this story to be an enjoyable read, I was at the edge of my seat at times because of its suspense. I also think the plot was great. I recommend this book to everyone. The only thing that I can say is that I want more! In a good way, I want to read more from this author and looking forward to reading what else she has in store for us in the future.

So much happened in this book! I love the suspense, it is jam packed with non-stop action. I am obsessed with this series. This is the book that I read the synopses before reading the first book, I did not know it was the second book I think. So I found out pretty much everything, the most important part was that Jace was Clary’s brother. I knew because I read it ahead of time, but when I read the first and second book I understood more of what was going on. I love how this world just consumed me, I felt like I was right in the middle of the action. This series is so much fun to read, the world Cassandra Clare created is just amazing. I love the characters, my favorite is Jace, not only because of his beautiful features but because he’s so funny. I think he is very rough with Clary, like he doesn’t have the time for her. He’s witty and oh so funny! I love Jace. Although his relationship with Clary is strange, he does not let anything bad happen to her and he’s always by her side whether he agrees with her choices or not.

This book gets 5/5 stars of course! It’s my favorite series and I recommend it to YA readers.

The second edition in the Lunarmorte series starts off right where the first book left off. This book is more focused on Caia and Lucien as well as Jaeden. There are many secrets as well as on the first book, and also nothing is what it seems. I really enjoyed the aspect of two stories unfolding at the same time. If I say much about Jaeden, I might spoil it, what I can say is that she tries to find her own path away from the pack because of what happened to her in the first book. I felt so bad for her in the first book, I was hoping for her to find some happiness and she does in this book. Her story is about her dealing with her painful past as well as opening up to someone new. I love that she is in this book almost as much as Caia and Lucien because Jaeden is such a captivating character.

Caia and Lucien go to the Center in order for Caia to further her magic powers. Caia wants to learn more and get better, so she’s exploring with that side of herself. She also struggles with her feelings toward Lucien. In this Center Marion and Martina reside, they are both powerful fire witches. They are very different and one important difference is that Caia trusts Marion, but is unsure of Martina’s intensions. Caia and Lucien spend almost the entire book fighting, it could have been resolved by having a simple conversation but they are both so stubborn. Everyone knows how they feel about each other; they just have to tell each other. Their relationship is definitely dysfunctional. It broke my heart the way they were treating each other, especially after learning about the special connection they have. Lucien’s ex-girlfriend Rose came to the Center and wanted to get back together with him, but he didn’t bother to let Caia know that he wasn’t interested, that drove me crazy! I don’t know who I wanted to slap more, Lucien for being a typical guy or Rose for butting in where she did not belong.

This book totally draws you in as you experience their world. There are so many twists and turns; this book is a great addition to the Lunarmorte series. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book since this one left off with a cliffhanger. I’m so glad I already have the next book.

I give this book a 4/5 as well only because of the writing again, but definitely better this time. I really fell in love with the first book; the characters and the plot. In this book I had the same experience; I love how the characters grew to know themselves and each other more. I can’t wait to finish the next book and see what finally happens. There’s definitely something for everyone, whether you are into faeries, lykans, or vampires. I really enjoyed this book.

Book Chat: Series vs. Stand-Alone Books

     I recently subscribed to Misty from the book rat on YT. There was an interesting topic that I wanted to voice my opinion on; series vs. stand-alone books. I don't think an author should be pressured into making more books because the publishers want to make more money off of them. I think if a book was meant to be a stand-alone, if that's how the author envisioned it; that's fine. There are plenty of good books that stand-alone and are still as interesting or more than a series.
     I like to read both kinds of books, when I need a break from all the series i read, I'll read a stand-alone book. Most of the books I've read have been series'. I like to read a series once it has all been published and I can buy it all together and read it. I don't like to read a book and have it be so good that I can't wait for the next one, I don't like to wait.

To read this week

I just purchased the next two books in the Lunarmorte series by Samantha Young: River Cast and Blood Solstice. I will be reading these this week. I'm excited to read them and interested to see what happens in these books; how the story keeps unfolding. Before reading the first in the series, i wasn't looking to read a series, i wanted to read a stand alone novel, but i liked the cover for this one and i thought the other books in this series weren't out yet. I have read three series straight and i just didn't want to do that, but I'm so into this story that I'm going to read the rest of it. For sure the upcoming books I read after this series are probably going to be Sarah Dessen, one of her books I'm not sure which.

I got a new Kindle, and the transition is pretty hard for me. I have many books that i need to read in paperback and hardcover, but I wanted the experience of reading on my Kindle. It feels pretty weird I must admit, I'll get used to it, I think.

I didn't read the synopses of this book prior to reading it, so I didn't know what it was going to be about. It turns out, you basically have to look at the cover and it tells you everything you want to know. It's a world of supernaturals such as faeries, vampires, witches, and mainly about werewolves who descend from Greek Gods.


The characters: Caia, which I liked, she wasn't too emotional of a character for me.
The Pack Leader, Lucien, I liked his character, he way he was described was really hot. 
The Elders, basically older members of the Pack like Lucien's mother Ella. 
Caia's uncle Magnus, they were all good secondary characters.
Her friends at school, Jaeden and Sebastian. I liked them both but Sebastian better. 
There were several villains in the story, I think they were portrayed good. 


When i started this book i was so excited because it is a beautiful cover and i just wanted to know more about it. The book follows Caia, and without her knowledge; her future was planned for her. the author wrote how all her choices were taken away from her. She had to spend 10 years away from her pack because someone was trying to kill her, the twist is; who wants her to be completely erased so that there was no sigh of her even being born. Caia finds that all her questions were answered and that her Pack Leader was withholding a lot of information; about her past and her future. I think he made many mistakes with her.


In the beginning of this book, i was a little lost; i couldn't quite understand which character was which, except Caia. The middle of the book was when it started to get good for me. I felt that the author made mistakes in her writing, it just confused me sometimes and it really made it hard for me to go on reading this book, but I held on and finished it, hoping it would get better and it did. Throughout the book I found myself correcting some of her writing so it could make more sense, in the beginning I thought the writing was pretty bad. From the middle on, I loved the book. The author describes how mating works for werewolves; once you find your mate, you will be together forever. If you mate dies, you will feel like a part of you died and you won't love anyone else the same way. I thought that part was really beautiful. Another thing i didn't like was the romance and how that part left off in the book. 


I give this book 4/5 stars because I love the story and the history of how the werewolves came from Gods, I like Greek mythology; so that was awesome that there was some of that in the book. I love the book. In the end, I have no idea who the next villain is going to be, sometimes when you read a series; you can kind of know who will be the next villain, but in for the next book, I can't tell. I'm looking forward to the next book. I recommend this book to readers of The Mortal Instruments Series. I really love the cover I think it's beautiful.
