Release Day Blitz- Scorned by S.L. Scott

Scorned by S.L. Scott

We shared a love that regulated every heartbeat and every breath we took. It was all encompassing. I thought our love could withstand time and anything thrown our way.

I was wrong. So wrong.

I used to be happy. I used to be Juliette Weston when Dylan Somers filled my life with promises of love and a happy ever after. But when he took my heart and broke it into a million pieces, I became someone else entirely. In one afternoon, I lost my soul mate. I lost everything I knew myself to be.

Three years later, the man who destroyed me is back.

To assuage his guilt? To finish the job? It doesn’t matter… I won’t let him this time. I’m stronger. I’ve moved on. He won’t affect me.

This is a story of love and betrayal. Pain and loss. Happiness and fate. It’s about finding your true destiny.

This is our story.

And it’s not for the faint of heart.

My Rating

Cursed, numb, rejected, scorned, wicked, sinister, dark, twisted...my name is Tex Campisi and this is my legacy. I killed my father in cold blood and lost my soul right along with him.
I crave war more than peace, and I'm about to take my place in history as the youngest Capo dei Capi in the Cosa Nostra...that is until someone stops me, saves me from myself.

But the only person able to do that...is my best friends sister, Mo Abandanato, and she just ripped my heart out and asked me to hold it in my hands while she put bullets through it.

I'm cursed so I did it.
I'm numb so I held it.
I'm wicked so I liked it.
I used the pain Mo caused as a catalyst to turn into my biggest nightmare--the five families greatest enemy. It's my turn to take a stand, knowing full well I'm going to lose my mind to the madness that is the American Mafia. I've always been told Blood is thicker than life. I wish I would have listened. Because regardless of who you love? You will betray. You will kill.
Blood Always Wins.
The only way out is death...yours.

Welcome to the Dark Side of the Family.

This is one of my favorite series, everything I read from Rachel I love, I've read 3 series by her and loved them all. This is the first series I've read about the mafia and I am completely fascinated and combine that with Rachel's writing, insta-love. I love how her characters get along so well, their interactions and banter is just hilarious. Although in this book Nixon shot someone at point blank range, had no intention on killing the person, nope he just wanted to make a point lol. Nobody can forget who the boss is and that they can't mess with his family. And others threatening to shoot people in the face, so funny, I mean it wouldn't be funny if it happened though.

"Damn this family's violent." - Mil

"You've been slamming a lot of doors." - Mo
"Yeah well the doors deserve it." - Tex
 "Because?" - Mo
"They block my view of you, and my number one                obsession is your safety." - Tex

"He should wear more color, I think it would make him happier." - Mil
"Trace makes me happy, thanks you very much and I'm       walking right in front of you, if you girls want to gossip       about me, I suggest you text." - Nixon
"You monitor our phones." - Mo

*****

To start from the beginning, Tex is the boss, like the big boss, everyone's boss, so he has to choose a side; to be boss or to stay with Nixon. So will he choose blood which is what he inherited or his actual family, with Nixon, Mo, and Chase, he was raised with them. Then there was the situation with Mo, Nixon's sister being pregnant and Tex covering up for her. The plot is intense, you have to keep up to know who's betraying who, who's loyal, who's gonna have your back, and who's going to shoot you. And then there are other secrets that surface. Things are so juicy and unexpected in this book and in this whole series. And the readers are in on most of it but we get surprised too so don't worry. And finally we get to know what is going on in Tex and Mo's relationship because I was dying to know about them. They have a love that unmistakable, undeniable, and inevitable. And it was so heartbreaking to see them being apart because they were so meant to be.

This has been my favorite book so far, I can't get enough of this series, Rachel is amazing and has a brilliant mind and I'm so glad she gets to share it with us. I always find it super hard to review books that I absolutely love because I don't ever think it's enough, lol. But wow this book surely blew me away with it's originality, plot, twists and turns and surprises. One funny thing that I noticed in this book was that they don't curse very much, then I thought 'well you don't need to curse someone out when you could just shoot them in the face or kill them', so at that point I got it, lol. There isn't much need for talking in their world. I'm looking forward to the next books in this series and I really hope Rachel writes a book about one of my favorite characters that is in this book but it's top secret until you read this book, then you'll know.

Release Day Blitz- Broken Road by Addison Kline

Broken Road - Book 2 in the Breaking Black Series and the sequel to Black Horse.

Signed Paperbacks can be ordered from Addison's website!

It is often said that time heals all wounds. It is spoken like a promise... a vow. These words are repeated to people who have been beaten down to their lowest state. To the poor souls who have nothing left to lose. Whispered into the ear of a grieving daughter, told with a shrug to a man who has nothing left to live for.

These are dangerous people.

The down-trodden.
The grieving.
The ones who love more people dead than alive.

The words should never be uttered. Not to the ones who have no solid ground on which to stand upon, no rail in which to clasp. The white-knuckled moments of life have come to be expected rather than feared.

"Time heals all wounds."

The words are an insult. A slap in the face... and around here, they'll get you hurt. For Averi McClain and her husband Colt, there were few deeper insults.

If time could heal all wounds, Jessa McClain would be proud to know that she was going to be a grandmother. Nathan Ford would have proudly walked his little girl down the aisle with Corinne beaming from her seat. Sitting by her side, Anna McCord would wipe a tear from her eye. Standing proudly by Colt and Randy at the arbor, Seth would have stood as a groomsman for his childhood friend. That is, if time truly healed all wounds.

But what about the hurts you cannot see? The deep gashes and the mangled hearts that remain after the brutality of a war. Their childhood was a battlefield. Colt and Averi didn't want that for their own sons and daughters.

What does time to do wounds? Time is nothing but a reminder of how much time has past since you last saw the ones you love most. The line is bullshit. A scape goat. A cheap cop out. It is something people say when they don't know what to say. It's not deep or sympathetic. It doesn't stop the heart from bleeding. Colt would not have a granite wall built around his heart like a fortress. A barrier which only Averi could crack.

Randy's soul would not quake with anger every time he heard mention of Black Horse, his roving band of lunatics, also known as the Seventy Devils, or Jimmy Hearns. You can’t even say the name Trent Myers to him without his sanity flickering out of sight. Tim wouldn't have to fight his anger out at the gym for several hours, five days a week. Shelly's sense of security would be intact and undisturbed. Averi's legs would not be permanently scarred with evidence of Black Horse's fiery insanity.

Time doesn't heal all wounds. Wounds fester. Sometimes the strain and exertion of trying to
get better puts so much stress on the wound that the scab rips open, stitches and scar tissue be damned.

Some wounds cannot be mended.

Some lines are just begging to be crossed.

Some roads are meant to be broken.

As one of Averi's favorite bands so poignantly croons, "God blessed the broken road that led me straight to you." In the case of Colt and Averi, no song lyrics could more perfectly describe the road that they have traveled. They have a love like no other, acting as a guiding light, a beacon in a world turned dark by Black Horse. What would you do if the the one man you couldn’t live without, was the son of the bastard that murdered your parents and your eldest brother? In the case of Averi Ford, she knew Colt was nothing like his father. He had spent his entire life running from his shadow. He had always been the one to protect Averi, even moreso than her ever watchful brothers. You can’t turn away from a love like that.

Theirs was a love that was intensified by pain and longing, desperation and heartache. They faced seemingly unsurmountable odds, and continue to do so, side by side. She needed him, not to be her hero, but as her equal and her friend until the end of their days. He needed her, not only physically, but spiritually, emotionally, he had wrapped all his hope in her. His humanity relied on her happiness. If her heart ceased to beat, he would let the darkness overcome him. He wouldn't stop until every single member of the Seventy Devils were dead.

Lord knows Randy and Tim would fight right alongside him. Averi was as essential to Colt as oxygen. Without her, the Colt that she knew and loved would cease to exist. They loved each other despite the odds they faced; in spite of those who said they shouldn't. Averi loved him regardless of his family history, of the stares and gossip, the upturned noses and blatant hostility. When Colt McClain walks into a room, the citizens of Oakely don't see him. They don't see his face or his kind soul. They don't see him at all. They see Black Horse - the man he so closely resembles, but whose hearts are night and day. There is a key difference. There is a gentle warmth to Colt's gaze. A calm depth that if you look deep enough, you can see all the good in him. Look into Black Horse's eyes and you'll see your own demise. When people look Colt's way, they see a murderer, a thief, a snake. They see a man with no soul. But Colt never killed a man that didn't have it coming, and let me tell you, Jimmy Hearns has it coming.

Most motorcycle clubs are not street gangs, but in the case of the Seventy Devils, there was no point in hiding it. The Seventy Devils ran the streets of Oakeley. The Seventy Devils, the band of lawless savages that did Black Horse's bidding, lived on, leaderless and hell bent on anarchy. When the strange circumstances surrounding Black Horse's death went public, Jimmy monopolized. Playing the role of a mourning son, Jimmy earned the respect and the power Texas' most violent motorcycle gang. To say the devils are out for blood is an understatement of epic proportions. The band of sociopathic heathens were rallied by Black Horse's death. It was a call to action, a call to arms, each one of them thirsty to drain the blood from Black Horse's murderer. Each one yearning to display his killer's head on a pike for the whole community to see. If the Seventy Devils were hostile during Black Horse's reign, it was nothing compared to their mental state after Black Horse was found burned, shot and murdered.

A war has erupted. The Seventy Devils are scattered and on alert, gnawing at the bit for the go-ahead to strike. They would not hesitate to spill the blood of anyone who stood in their way of recompense. They knew they would need to act fast if they wanted to come out on top. Colt was not the kind of guy that you slept on. He'd stop at nothing to protect his family and he was lethal whether he was heavily armed or going toe to toe, bare knuckled beat-down style. Colt did have Black Horse's blood coursing through his veins, after all. But then, so did Jimmy, and he is ready to show everyone that the apple didn't fall far from the tree... in fact, they appear to have formed on the same poisoned branch.

As leader of the Devils, Jimmy had seventy miscreants to do his bidding - and three goals in which he needed to achieve:

1.      Avenge Black Horse
2.      Kill Colt McClain and Randy Ford
3.      Take Averi for his own

Jimmy has another thing coming if he thinks victory is easily won. Will Colt and Averi's broken road end in tragedy? Or will they be the ones to banish the devils straight to hell? When the demons of the past rise up, can Colt and Randy face them fearless and determined? Whatever happens, don't expect Colt and Randy to stand alone. Buckle up. The broken road makes for one hell of a ride.

some_text

I'll start off by saying that this is one of my favorite series ever, I love this series and all the books I've read by Rachel, she's awesome. I was a very big fan of Chase in the previous books especially Elect because it was partially in his POV and it just broke my heart for Trace to choose Nixon because I didn't like him too much. I was rooting for Chase knowing that she would choose Nixon anyway. So I was very conflicted when Chase was getting with Mil, I knew how much he loved Trace and it was hard for me to watch him go through it all. I'm glad that he had a history with Mil, it helped me get used to them together.

The plot of this book was crazy, murder, secrets, and betrayal, you know, all the good stuff that happens in the mafia lol.

*****
"--is that she wants to get married." Mo grinned. "So... grow a pair and put a ring on it."
Tex snickered behind me.
I lifted the back of my jacket to reveal both of my pistols.
The snickering stopped.
"Still the boss." I said.
"Still an ass." Mo sang.
"Or the devil," Tex added. "However you want to put it."

                                                                                       *****

I loved that part, it was so funny. And no we can't forget that Nixon is the boss because he is bossy and has no problem shooting anybody and I wouldn't want him any other way. I didn't like him in the beginning like I said earlier because he was really mean to Trace in some parts of book 1 & 2, some of the things he said were like 'wow, I can't believe he said that, it was so wrong & mean.'

In this book, I'm so glad that Chase has Mil because he deserves to be happy and for someone to love the shit out of him, he's such a great guy. I love how he fiercely protects Mil and wouldn't let anything happen to her. Their love was beautiful and epic, he would give his life for her and she would not have it, she would call him names for getting shot. And of course Rachel did not disappoint with a jaw dropping cliffhanger again, cause what are her mafia books without a crazy cliffhanger.

*****
"...I'd allowed a girl to get so deep under my skin that I'd forgotten what I was. A born killer, a made man, son of a very dead mafia boss - and husband to one of the De Lange leaders..."
"...You're like my Superman..."
"...I want to be your savior..."
"...Blood in. Blood out..."
                                                                                           *****

I can't get enough of this series, I love it and I can't wait for the continuation of this series, there are going to be 6 books so far and I'm so excited for them. I also read an eARC of Elicit which is Tex's story and I loved it, it was so good. I was dying to know what was going on with Tex and Mo cause we knew it was something, we just didn't know what. The more I read the more I love the series and can't wait for more.

For small-town rebel Dani Webber magic and monsters are no more real than the Easter Bunny… until the day she accidentally stops time. Dani quickly discovers that not only do supernaturals exist, but she herself is one of them. This is great news for her life-long best friend Russ, who can finally come clean about his own supernatural status and his undying love for her. Before the two can start to enjoy the long overdue relationship, Dani is taken by a powerful council of supernaturals who believe she is the Chosen One destined to save them from extinction.

As if being kidnapped and expected to save the world isn’t bad enough, an ancient prophecy warns of the Chosen One’s dark nature: “Only the truest love will keep her an agent for good.” The council believes they know who this “true love” is and, unfortunately, that person isn’t Russ. The mysterious, powerful and devastatingly handsome Seer is the last person Dani wants in her life, but when she starts having visions of a horrific future, she has no one else to turn to for help.

Soon Dani finds herself torn between two very different boys with two very different opinions of whom she can trust. With the visions getting worse and time running out, Dani is forced to put aside her feelings and work with both the Seer and Russ before an ancient evil is unleashed upon the earth.

For fans of Sylvia Day, E. L. James, and J. Kenner, the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the edgy and erotic Full Exposure delivers another explosive tale of seduction and suspense.

As the only woman on her homicide squad, Genevieve Delacroix maintains a tough-as-nails attitude that keeps men at arm?s length. She never gives into her secret fantasies? until she meets a mysterious stranger who teaches her how little control she really has? over her mind and her body.

Cole Adams arrives in New Orleans believing star investigator Genevieve is his last hope for solving the murder of his younger sister. He just doesn?t expect the hard-assed detective to look like a blond bombshell. Once he breaks through her inhibitions, he soon finds an unexpected obsession?driving Genevieve right to the edge of desire, and beyond?

But when the serial killer who has been terrorizing the streets of the French Quarter sets his sights on Genevieve, the lovers realize they've both let down their guard. And losing control could have fatal consequences?

I enjoyed this book, the plot and the writing was really good. I feel like the story flowed well and it kept my attention. I liked Genevieve and Cole, they had a good thing going but as always secret can tear anything apart. Genevieve was a bad-ass detective, she was the only one that was a woman so she didn't have it easy working with only men. Her boss had it in for her, I hated him because he was so rude. She also had a stoker she had to deal with as well as a case she was working on. Nobody would believe her that some murders were connected so she had a lot on her plate.
Cole was just trying to find his sister's killer and he was hoping that Genevieve could help him. I felt like he was honest, he just wanted answers and redemption for his sister.

There was also lots of sex in this book and it was hot, it might turn some readers off and I didn't mind it but at times I thought there was too much going on with all the intimacy and the investigation Genevieve had going on, it was too much but there was also something missing for me and I can't put my finger on it. When the killer was revealed, I hadn't seen it coming.
