Happy Birthday!

(Also known as book signing horror story)

It was my first time signing a book for someone. I was so excited that my heart was beating like crazy and my palms clammed up. I held my beautiful book in my hand, opening it slowly, careful not to bend the cover. Reaching for the sharpie, I had a momentary panic moment. What would I write? Doesn’t every author have some type of catch phrase? Don’t they all have some cute little phrase that encompasses their books? I looked up at the woman who bought the book for her daughter and smiled, hoping she couldn’t see the turmoil that raged inside my mind. I glanced back down at the book and wondered what I should write.

Then it came to me. Happy Reading. Short, simple and to the point. Easy enough.

I leaned down, pressing my pen to the page and wrote Happy Birthday. My heart stopped. Happy Birthday? What? Why did I write that? I meant to write Happy Reading, but for some reason I accidentally wrote Happy Birthday.

I looked up at the woman and asked, “Is it your daughter’s birthday soon?”

“In a few months,” she replied.

I nodded, pressing my lips together. “I messed this book up,” I confessed. “I’ll buy you a different one.”

When I told the woman what happened, she thought it was great and wanted to take the one that said Happy Birthday. Even though she was sweet about it, I still felt like an idiot.

So if I ever meet you at a signing, don’t be surprised if you end up with a book that says Happy Birthday.

BLURB

I don’t go for bad boys, or rockers.
And I don’t believe in love at first sight.
Until I see Beckett.
And things only get worse when I hear him sing.
There is no one like him.
The problem is that he wants nothing to do with me.
And I know I should stay away from him.
It’s the smart thing to do.
Only when it comes to Beckett I don’t want to do the smart thing. He makes me want to take a risk.
I just hope he decides to take a risk on me too.

My Review

I really enjoyed this book, the musical side of it; which the lyrics were awesome, and the romance side of it. I thoroughly enjoyed both main characters; Star who was a smart ass at times but very innocent, and Beckett who is so damaged that he refuses to let anybody in. They are very different so it was a good dynamic that they had music in common. I'm used to reading about the girl next door but I really love reading about a character like Beckett, he is so full of himself and is a womanizer (that's not why I like him lol) I like him because it's always a mystery under all that hard exterior. He was definitely hurt by this girl Quinn, and it takes almost the whole book to find out the real story because he was so tight lipped about it. I love how over protective Beckett was over Star, I thought that was so cute. I also love how she got him to open up.

The other characters were also great, Lola the protective best friend who was also a clean freak lol. That part really cracked me up, the way that Lola is so clean and that Star isn't. Then there's Ryker, the one that saw it all coming; he knew Star would be good with Beckett, she was the perfect person for him.

It was so funny how after a gig they played Beckett has his personal "fan club" as Star would call them. They would wait for him after he played to swoon over him and he loved it.

I know I won't do this book any justice with my review, I want to say so much but it's all a secret of the book so I can't ruin that. I recommend this book to contemporary lovers and music lovers. I read this book in one day, it was so good and I was immediately hooked until the end.
I give this book 4/5 stars, I really liked it. And I would like to thank Amber for a funny post.
I received this book for review as part of the tour.
