Best Kind of Broken (Finding Fate, #1)

Best Kind of Broken
Author: Chelsea Fine
Series: Finding Fate 1
Source: eARC  from Netgalley
Expected Publishing Date: March 4, 2014
Publisher: Forever
Genre: New Adult Romance
My Rating:

Pixie and Levi haven't spoken in nearly a year when they find themselves workingand livingat the same inn in the middle of nowhere. Once upon a time, they were childhood friends. But that was before everything went to hell. And now things are... awkward.

All they want to do is avoid each other, and their past, for as long as possible. But now that they're forced to share a bathroom, and therefore a shower, keeping their distance from one another becomes less difficult than keeping their hands off each other. Welcome to the hallway of awkward tension and sexual frustration, folks. Get comfy. It’s going to be a long summer.

Casually moving around my room, I plug in every electric item I own and wait until he's halfway through shaving. Then I turn everything on at once. The electricity immediately goes out and I hear the buzz of his razor die.
"Dammit, Pixie!"
"You really should charge your razor every once in a while," "Have fun rocking a half-beard all day."

"Then use your phone."
"My phone is dead."
'The boy never charges anything. He almost makes the whole fuse-blowing thing too easy.'

I went out of my way to ensure Pixie didn't get hot showers. Not very mature, but it was either that or drown in silence.
"Forty-two minutes!"
Sometimes she times me. It's adorable.
"You're an asshole, Levi."

Little Pixie, whom I had spent my whole life loving and one night destroying, was standing outside my bedroom with pink toenails, a blue suitcase, and a look on her face that made me feel like I was home. And God, I wanted to be home.

And he has me when I'm nineteen and in the shower with my pajamas on, searching his eyes for my hero.
He has me.
He's always had me.
And I've never wanted to be had by anyone else.

"And I am yours, even when you don't want me. I'm still yours."

... he blames himself. The idiot actually blames himself. Just like me. God, we're a mess.

How could I have spoken to her like that?
How could I have treated her like the woman whose damage I once lived to undo?

Pixie's not mine. I don't care.
I'm not sure where Daren goes after that because I force myself not to turn around. But damn if I don't want to track him down and put a leash on him.

I thought this book was so funny; there were awkward moments, and just plain hilarious moments. I liked this story but I could have had without all the sad, depressing, and down moments; which is most of what I read. I stopped reading at 73% because I couldn’t take it anymore. There’s so much guilt, sadness, and feeling sorry about yourself than I can take in a character. Seriously, and the book ends at 93%? Okay we get the point that they’re broken, they shared a difficult memory and it was only a year before but come on, don’t base a whole book about sadness and grief, I couldn’t take it. They are going to be great together, they had this history because they knew each other since they were kids, and just had a really good connection going before all hell broke loose.

So when are they going to get together? I would have loves to see Pixie and Levi together. How can you base a romance on 20% of the book? I really want to know because a good one would have to be a lot longer to establish anything solid. I think these characters getting together would have been explosive to say the least, but I couldn’t get over all the darkness.

  1. It's a shame you couldn't finish this book. I agree though, it seems like the sadness has dragged on. The teasers you picked were fun though, had me smirking whilst reading!!

    1. This book to me had so much potential to have a good romance. They want each other but all the pain & hurt stops them. They could be so good together.
